Queen for a day - Part II

Not only did I surprise myself by running the full 5km for the Queen of the Lake but I managed to do it in 31 mins 35.8 seconds!

There is another event in September that I might just have to try...

Queen for a day!

Sunday is the day - I'll be a Queen for the morning at least...

...by competing in the Queen of the Lake 5km run at Albert Park Lake.

I'm not pretending that I will actually be able to run the whole 5km route just yet, but I should be able to at least make it to half way after Boot Camp. I believe I may be joined by a fellow Boot Camp recruit and I'm heading over with two, rather fit, friends. So, at least we'll start together and then I will see them when I cross the finish line!

Oxfam Challenge donations go online!

Oxfam have now made it easier for people to make tax deductible donations to support us in fundraising for the Oxfam Challenge!

So, visit Oxfam's secure site here and select "Cambodia Vietnam Cycle" for the event, then select our names from the drop down list, enter the amount of your donation and WHAMMO - we'll be one step closer to our fundraising target!

Oxfam will send a receipt directly out to you, so it cuts down on admin too.

Thanks for all your support -
and we'll see you at the Canberra Oxfam Trivia Challenge!!

Boot Camp update...

I reached the half way mark of Boot Camp this morning - session 7 of 12. So, we were put through another fitness test to see how we were going...

  • 2km run- one minute faster at 11 mins 21 secs;
  • Sit ups in a minute - 31 (sadly I have only improved by 1 *sniff*);
  • Push ups in a minute - 43; and
  • The 'plank' - 1 min 10 secs (the goal is 3 mins).

But, we didn't stop there. We then had to continue with another drill doing more sit ups and push ups and running and star jumps and whatever for another 20 minutes! I am exhausted but at least I am not as stiff as I was in the first week...

Certifiable...

I think I've finally cracked. I'm going mad - it's official!
Not only have I been getting up at 5am to cycle to Boot Camp, then being put through my paces there for an hour... but I've signed up to ride:
This involves Team Melbourne getting up early on Sunday, 16 October 2005 to catch a bus from Docklands (Melbourne) to Sorrento (Mornington Peninsula) THEN cycling 100km from Sorrento, half way around Port Philip Bay back to Docklands.

Not only will this mean an early morning on a weekend but I have to be fit enough to cycle 100km a month before we leave...I was planning to leave that until the last week!!

I am somewhat comforted by the fact that there are people madder than I am because they will cycle the full route of 210km on that day!

It's a good thing I'm back on my bike and cycling to boot camp and work every morning...

Boot Camp

No, I haven't joined the armed forces...
Yesterday morning I completed my first day at Boot Camp, which involves getting up early to be at the Botanic Gardens by 6am to be yelled at by people for which I have paid the privilege while they put me through hell!
Well, so far there hasn't been so much yelling as there has been encouragement but tomorrow morning that may change...

Yesterday morning saw our fitness tested which involved:

  • Running 2km - I did it in 12mins 24 secs;
  • How ever many sit ups we could do in a minute - 30 was all my poor stomach could handle;
  • How ever many push ups we could do in a minute - 33 (and they weren't the 'girly' ones); and
  • Holding the 'plank' position for as long as possible - after sits ups, all I could manage was 50 secs (the goal is 3 mins).

As a result, I can barely move today and when I do I look like an old woman! Oh how I hurt - let me count the ways - sore pecs, quads and abs!

But, it's all in the name of the Challenge and will hopefully ensure that I am fit enough to cycle up to 100 km a day. We'll see...
